NAFTZ launches new survey for FTZ Advocacy – we want and need to hear from you!

November 21, 2022

As part of NAFTZ’s 5-year Advocacy Visioning presented to the Board of Directors at this years Annual Conference in Miami, NAFTZ is launching a new survey to better understand the impact that each issue on our advocacy list is having on member organizations and their FTZ activities – no matter what the role you and your organization play in the FTZ world.

This survey gathers 7 different profile points that we don’t currently have in our database like what is your FTZ role, does your organization have a government relations department, individual(s) or function, and information about your company/organization policies concerning employee engagement in association advocacy.  This information will assist NAFTZ staff in tailoring communications to constituents based on this profile data – resulting in more relevant information to appropriate groups of members and other constituents.

Yes, we know it’s a big ask – but we’ve specifically designed the survey to be very easy to complete.

NAFTZ board members and advisors have tested the survey, with most taking about 25-30 minutes to complete the survey.  However, this survey has been specifically designed such that anyone taking the survey should be able to simply sit down and complete the survey with knowledge they already have in their head.  The survey is comprised primarily of Yes/No questions, rank on a scale of 1-10, and open areas for optional comments or advice on each advocacy issue.

We will also enter everyone who completes the survey in a drawing for great thank-you prizes and gifts as our way of saying thanks for your time!

Will I, my company or organization be identified in any of the survey results or outputs?  No.

NAFTZ staff will be the only individuals to see the raw data.  All survey results and outputs will be presented only in the aggregate.  For example, we’ll show the priorities of user/operators vs. grantees, while be able to tell how significant each issue is overall and to different groups of FTZ constituents.  Again, we will not be releasing any specific responses, or any specific company information gathered in this survey.  If you have any questions at all about the use of this data, please contact NAFZ President Jeff Tafel at jtafel@naftz.org.

How will NAFTZ use the information gathered in this survey?

We expect to be able to use the survey in multiple ways including but not limited to:

  1. Setting our advocacy and legislative priorities
  2. Allocation of NAFTZ resources to the issues that are most significant
  3. Identify issues where NAFTZ needs to provide more education, information, or guidance
  4. For NAFTZ to have a better understanding of what limitations or policies different organizations have for their employees to engage in NAFTZ advocacy efforts while providing different engagement opportunities to accommodate corporate policies
  5. To begin segmenting our advocacy communications to appropriate members and constituents. Until we know exactly what issues are impacting which members, we need to communicate all issues to the entire membership.  By segmenting our communications, we’ll be able to send focused communications to only those most likely being impacted by certain issues

Who does NAFTZ want to complete this survey?

Obviously NAFTZ members are the first and primary audience for this survey.  However, we’ll be sending this survey to all grantees in the U.S. – members and non-members.  We’re also asking grantees to forward the survey information to everyone active in their FTZ in some way.  The only requirement for non-member participation is to provide their full contact info.  Aggregate results will be sent to everyone that completes the survey.

Questions?  Comments?

Please contact Jeff Tafel, NAFTZ President at jtafel@naftz.org.

Thank you in advance for taking the time to complete this survey and help NAFTZ to better understand you, your organization, and how our advocacy and legislative issues are impacting you, your company and your FTZ.

Non-members, please complete the short form on this link to retrieve the link to the survey.
